Municipalities in Argentina and Brazil launch youth climate action funds
Several municipalities in Argentina and Brazil have launched initiatives to empower youth through climate action funding. Through the Youth Climate Action Fund (YCAF), supported by Bloomberg Philanthropies, C40 Cities, and other international organizations, cities including Lomas de Zamora, Ushuaia, Quilmes, and Río Grande in Argentina, as well as Salvador in Brazil, are inviting young people aged 15 to 25 to submit environmental projects.
These projects, which can receive micro-grants of up to USD 5,000, focus on themes such as waste management, renewable energy, urban resilience, biodiversity, and environmental education. Participants are typically required to work in partnership with non-profit organizations or educational institutions to implement their solutions.
In addition to financial support, these programs often provide mentorship and training to help young leaders design and manage their initiatives. These efforts aim to bridge the digital and social gap while fostering local leadership in addressing global climate challenges.
