Youth climate grants expand in Argentina, Uruguay, Chile

July 2026 saw Argentine municipalities Ushuaia and Mendoza join Bloomberg Philanthropies’ Youth Climate Action Fund, offering micro‑grants of US$1,500‑$5,000 and up to US$7.15 million in funding to youth‑led projects aligned with local climate plans.

One month later, the initiative’s reach extended beyond Argentina. On 15 July, Montevideo’s Intendencia launched a competitive youth climate fund with grants of US$1,000‑$5,000 for proposals that support the city’s Climate Action Plan, covering education, heat‑wave resilience, sustainable agriculture, waste management, green governance, data collection, green infrastructure, circular economy and transport. Simultaneously, Concordia in Argentina opened its “Jóvenes en Acción Climática 2026” call, providing non‑repayable subsidies of US$1,000‑$5,000 for youth‑led renewable‑energy, education, biodiversity, green‑infrastructure and circular‑economy projects.

At the end of July, Bloomberg Philanthropies announced that 300 cities worldwide have been selected for the Youth Climate Action Fund, including General Pico in Argentina and Punta Arenas in Chile. General Pico opened its “Misión Clima GP” call on 28 July, offering up to US$5,000 per project for youth aged 15‑24, with applications due 8 September and design workshops beginning 1 August. Punta Arenas created a US$50,000 municipal fund for similar projects, accepting proposals until 4 September across five priority areas such as ecosystems, waste management, sustainable tourism, energy efficiency and Antarctica, with technical support under Chile’s Climate Change Framework Law.
