Quito enforces Pico y Placa vehicle restrictions on Aug 3‑4, 2026
The Municipality of Quito continued its Pico y Placa traffic‑restriction program on Monday, 3 August, and Tuesday, 4 August 2026. Vehicles with license plates ending in 1‑2 were barred from circulating on Monday, while those ending in 3‑4 faced the ban on Tuesday. The restriction applies in two daily windows: 06:00‑09:30 and 16:00‑20:00, and covers private cars and motorcycles within the city’s urban perimeter.
Drivers who violate the schedule incur progressive fines calculated as a percentage of the 2026 basic unified salary (SBU) of $482: 15 % ($72.30) for the first offense, 30 % ($144.60) for the second, and 50 % ($241.00) for a third. The penalties may be reduced by community service at a rate of one hour per $10 of the fine. The measure does not apply on weekends or public holidays.
