Quito Mayor Pabel Muñoz Announces Re‑election Bid with Movimiento Amigo

Quito’s mayor, Pabel Muñoz, confirmed he will seek a second term in the November 2026 sectional elections. Because his long‑standing party, Revolución Ciudadana, remains suspended by the Electoral Tribunal, he will run under the banner of Movimiento Amigo, a party founded by former assemblyman Daniel Mendoza. Muñoz said he has been a member of Revolución Ciudadana for 19 years and does not feel comfortable with Amigo, but the alliance is necessary to keep his political project alive. He warned that the campaign will be “the dirtiest ever” for a Quito mayor, expecting high‑intensity attacks from multiple political sectors. Muñoz stressed he will respond within democratic debate despite the anticipated confrontation.
