Bogotá and Quito implement vehicle rotation restrictions

Traffic restriction measures, known as Pico y Placa, continue to impact mobility in Bogotá and Quito.

In Bogotá, for Thursday, August 13, 2026, vehicles with license plates ending in 6, 7, 8, 9, and 0 are prohibited from circulating between 06:00 and 21:00. Private vehicles with plates ending in 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 are permitted to drive. Violators face fines of approximately 604,100 pesos.

In Quito, the restriction applies to both cars and motorcycles. For Thursday, August 13, 2026, vehicles with plates ending in 7 and 8 are restricted during the morning (06:00 to 09:30) and afternoon (16:00 to 20:00) windows. Fines for non-compliance are calculated based on the Unified Basic Salary (SBU), increasing with subsequent offenses.

Regarding motorcycle regulations in Bogotá, the Secretary of Mobility, María Fernanda Ortiz, stated that while motorcycle restrictions are not currently being implemented, the administration is monitoring rising accident rates and increasing vehicle sales to evaluate future alternatives.
