Quito's Avenida 12 de Octubre Closed for 70-Day Renovation
A 70‑day maintenance project on Quito's Avenida 12 de Octubre will begin on Monday, 27 July, and run until early October. The works cover the stretch from Av. Cristóbal Colón to Calle Tarqui, with phases: Cristóbal Colón‑Madrid (27 July‑22 August), Madrid‑Patria (23 August‑18 September) and Patria‑Tarqui (19 September‑2 October). The upgrade is part of a 15‑km road‑renewal plan affecting the La Floresta, La Vicentina, El Dorado, El Belén, Guápulo and Mariscal Sucre neighborhoods.
To keep traffic flowing, the Metropolitan Mobility and Public Works Agency, together with the City Mobility Secretariat and the Metropolitan Transit Agency, will implement alternate routes. Vehicles will be redirected through Patria, Tarqui, 6 de Diciembre, La Coruña, Cristóbal Colón, Madrid, Alfredo Mena Caamaño, José Tamayo and Ladrón de Guevara. Public‑transport buses will continue service on the Toledo, La Coruña and Ladrón de Guevara lines, while the Cabildo will maintain work on surrounding streets such as Madrid, Guipúzcoa and Pontevedra.
