Quito urban infrastructure and road projects
Overview
Quito is undergoing several urban infrastructure and mobility projects. In late July, a 70-day maintenance project commenced on Avenida 12 de Octubre, stretching from Av. Cristóbal Colón to Calle Tarqui. This renovation, part of a larger 15-km road-renewal plan, involves phased closures and traffic diversions through various surrounding streets to maintain flow in neighborhoods such as La Floresta and El Dorado.
In mid-August, the municipality announced a separate USD 7 million expansion project for Amazonas Avenue. Scheduled to begin on August 14, this seven-month project aims to create a 2.21-kilometer connection to Luis Tufiño Avenue. Unlike the Avenida 12 de Octubre works, this expansion is designed to proceed without road closures, featuring new traffic lanes, a central median, sidewalks, and a paved cycle path.
