Quảng Trị fisherman rescues five workers from offshore survey raft

A local security official and fisherman, Ngô Thanh Sơn, rescued five workers stranded on a geological survey raft off the coast of Sen Ngư, Quảng Trị province. The incident occurred on October 6 near an offshore wind power project site.

While fishing approximately 1km from the shore, the 50-year-old security leader received a distress signal from the raft. The workers, identified as Hồ Văn Mạnh, Ngô Thanh Cảnh, Trần Văn Linh, Trần Văn Cường, and Trần Văn Quốc, were conducting drilling operations for the wind energy project. Due to heavy waves and strong winds, the raft was at risk of drifting uncontrollably.

Mr. Sơn used his 6-meter fishing boat to approach the raft and successfully transferred all five individuals to his vessel, bringing them safely to shore. Following the rescue, the raft—a 60-square-meter structure weighing approximately 20 tons—broke its anchor and drifted several kilometers due to poor weather. Mr. Sơn later assisted in securing the raft to prevent further drifting and property damage.
