Quytech launches AI-powered theft detection for retail
Quytech has launched an AI-powered theft detection system designed to identify shoplifting, cashier fraud, and inventory loss in real time. The technology integrates with existing CCTV, Point of Sale (POS), and warehouse management infrastructure, allowing businesses to detect discrepancies between video footage and transaction data without requiring new hardware.
The launch comes amid significant industry losses. According to the Appriss Retail 2026 Total Retail Loss Benchmark Report, US retailers faced $90 billion in inventory shrink in 2025, with $66 billion deemed preventable. Additionally, Capital One Shopping research estimated shoplifting costs the industry $47.8 billion, up from $45 billion in 2024.
While the National Retail Federation’s 2026 report noted a 12.4% decrease in shoplifting incidents, it highlighted an increase in other forms of theft, fraud, and scams that are difficult to detect through manual audits. The new AI system aims to address these issues by providing immediate notifications when suspicious activity or data mismatches occur.
