Rabat hosts international symposium on AI in judicial systems

Rabat is hosting an international symposium focused on the application of artificial intelligence within judicial systems. Organized by the Court of Cassation of Morocco in partnership with the Association des Hautes Juridictions de Cassation des pays ayant en partage l’usage du français (AHJUCAF), the event brings together over 40 officials, magistrates, and experts from approximately 20 countries.

The discussions aim to explore how AI can modernize judicial procedures and legal professions through digitalization, while simultaneously addressing risks related to ethics, liability, and the protection of litigants' rights. A primary objective is to establish frameworks that allow for technological integration while ensuring human control, judicial independence, and adherence to deontological rules.

Participants include high-ranking judicial officials, such as Mohamed Abdennabaoui, First President of the Court of Cassation, and representatives from the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF). The event follows previous collaborative efforts between Morocco's Superior Council of the Judicial Power and UNESCO to define principles for AI use in courts, emphasizing human responsibility in judicial decision-making.
