Brazil: Regional rabies vaccination campaigns and veterinary initiatives
Various municipalities in Brazil are launching or expanding rabies vaccination campaigns for dogs and cats to protect public health. In the Coophavila II and Tarumã neighborhoods, the Center for Zoonosis Control (CCZ) is conducting door-to-door vaccinations, with potential extensions to the Batistão region.
Penedo has scheduled its 2026 rabies campaign to run from November 3 to December 7, utilizing fixed points, rural services, and mobile teams to reach elderly residents or those with multiple animals. Similarly, Juazeiro do Norte will hold a “Dia D” vaccination event on November 7, offering 26 immunization points for animals aged three months and older.
In Araçatuba, the City Council approved guidelines for Samupet, a proposed mobile veterinary emergency service designed to assist abandoned animals suffering from injuries, poisoning, or abuse. While the project establishes the framework for such a service, its actual implementation remains subject to municipal budget availability.
