Raccoon rescued in Costa Rica after head stuck in metal tin

A male raccoon in Costa Rica was successfully rescued after getting its head stuck inside a discarded metal tin can. The animal became incapacitated while searching for food in the trash.

Firefighters transported the raccoon to the International Animal Rescue (IAR) center. To prevent injury, specialists applied a lubricant around the opening of the can and carefully slid the metal container off the animal's head. Following the rescue, the raccoon was provided with fluids to combat potential dehydration and exhaustion.

After being assessed, the raccoon was released back into the wild the same day. Gavin Bruce, Executive Director of the IAR, noted that while the outcome was happy, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers that discarded household waste poses to wildlife.
