Raccoon rescue incidents

Overview

Separate incidents involving the rescue of raccoons have been reported in Costa Rica and Texas.

In Costa Rica, firefighters and specialists at the International Animal Rescue center assisted a male raccoon that had become incapacitated after its head became stuck in a discarded metal tin. After specialists used lubricant to remove the container and provided fluids for dehydration, the animal was released back into the wild.

In Austin, Texas, firefighters responded to a report of a raccoon stuck in a tree hole. Using a tool similar to the Jaws of Life and a catch pole, crews freed the animal. The Austin Firefighter Association confirmed the raccoon was alive and unharmed following the rescue.
