Radnóti Miklós statue vandalized in Bor, Serbia

A bronze statue of Hungarian poet Radnóti Miklós in the mining town of Bor, Serbia, was damaged again by vandals. The monument, weighing about 600 kg, was a gift from Hungary in 1979; the original was stolen in 2001 and a replacement was erected in 2004.

The Vojvodina Hungarian National Council filed a criminal complaint, and its president, Fremond Árpád, posted on Facebook urging local authorities to clean and protect the monument. The statue commemorates Radnóti’s forced labor service in Bor during 1944, a period that produced several of his well‑known poems.
