Radosław Piesiewicz, Polish Olympic Committee President, detained
Radosław Piesiewicz, the president of the Polish Olympic Committee (PKOl), was detained in Warsaw by the Central Bureau for Combating Cybercrime. The arrest is part of an ongoing investigation into the ZondaCrypto cryptocurrency exchange scandal.
Investigators are examining allegations that Piesiewicz received luxury gifts, including a Patek Philippe Calatrava watch valued at approximately 40,000 euros, as well as luxury accommodations and travel, from ZondaCrypto owner Przemysław Kral. It is alleged that these gifts were intended to secure influence over the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK) to resolve regulatory issues facing the exchange.
Piesiewicz has denied the bribery allegations, asserting that he paid for the watch in cash and that Kral merely assisted with the complex purchase. The investigation has also been linked to the disappearance of ZondaCrypto founder Sylwester Suszek. Authorities are currently working to secure over 100 million PLN to cover potential future compensation for victims of the exchange's collapse.
