Rafael Greca launches MDB pre‑candidacy for Paraná governorship

Former Curitiba mayor Rafael Greca announced his pre‑candidacy for the governorship of Paraná as the MDB’s official nominee. The launch took place on 20 June at the Sociedade Thalia in Curitiba and was attended by more than 100 municipal leaders, as well as national MDB president Baleia Rossi, state party president and federal deputy Sérgio Souza, former governors Álvaro Dias and Orlando Pessuti, and several state legislators.

Greca highlighted his administrative experience, saying, “Tenho amor pelo Paraná e vontade de fazer o bem para o povo paranaense.” He proposed creating regional planning institutes linked to the state’s 19 municipal associations to promote decentralized economic development. The party signaled an intention to build broad alliances ahead of the 2026 elections, positioning Greca as a centrist alternative to incumbent Governor Ratinho Junior’s preferred successor and to potential rival Sergio Moro.

The event marked the start of the MDB’s organized campaign for the state race, with the party indicating it will hold its own convention between 20 July and 5 August to formalise candidacies.
