Rafael López Aliaga faces exclusion request for 2026 elections
A complaint has been filed with the Jurado Electoral Especial (JEE) Lima Centro seeking the exclusion of Rafael López Aliaga from the 2026 regional and municipal elections. López Aliaga is currently running as a candidate for first councilman (primer regidor) of Lima.
The legal challenge follows the resignation of Luis Rubio Idrogo, who was the original candidate for Mayor of Lima on the same electoral list. Complainants argue that the resignation has altered the list's configuration in a way that could allow López Aliaga to assume the Mayoralty for the 2027-2030 period without being directly elected to that specific office.
The petition asks electoral authorities to evaluate potential constitutional incompatibilities regarding immediate reelection, citing Article 194 of the Constitution, as well as possible abuse of rights under Article 103. The JEE is expected to review whether the change in the list's leadership necessitates his exclusion.
