Rafael López Aliaga investigated for misleading electoral propaganda
The Special Electoral Jury (JEE) of Lima Centro has opened a sanctioning procedure against the Renovación Popular party and Rafael López Aliaga for a potential violation of the principle of veracity in electoral propaganda.
The investigation follows an inspection in the Breña district on September 8, which identified advertising materials that falsely presented López Aliaga as the “mayor of Lima.” Specifically, officials found a billboard on Arica Avenue and graffiti on a private property featuring the slogan “Porky ¡vuelve! alcalde de Lima.”
According to official records from the National Jury of Elections (JNE), López Aliaga is registered as a candidate for first provincial councilor for the Municipality of Lima, not as a candidate for mayor. The JEE noted a discordance between his official registration and the messages used in the street propaganda, stating that such materials could mislead or confuse the electorate.
