José Tangherlini succeeds Rafael Rey as Peru's Transport Minister
Rafael Rey has resigned from his position as Peru's Minister of Transport and Communications, citing health reasons that prevent him from fulfilling his duties with the required dedication. Rey, who had held the post since July 28, 2026, submitted his irrevocable resignation to President Keiko Fujimori. The Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM) acknowledged his service and expressed gratitude for his contributions to the country.
Following the resignation, economist José Angello Tangherlini Casal was sworn in as the new Minister of Transport and Communications during a ceremony led by President Fujimori. Tangherlini, an economist with over 20 years of experience in public administration, previously served as the Vice Minister of Development of Family Agriculture and Agrarian Infrastructure and Irrigation. He intends to ensure the continuity of ongoing policies and projects within the ministry.
