Leadership change in Peru's Transport Ministry

Overview

Rafael Rey resigned from his position as Peru’s Minister of Transport and Communications, citing health reasons. Rey stated that the physical intensity and tension of the role were causing him harm and that he had informed President Keiko Fujimori and Prime Minister Luis Galarreta of his decision to step down three weeks prior to his formal departure.

Rey denied rumors of political friction or disagreements with the presidency regarding the Lima-Chosica train case. He clarified that his resignation was a proactive measure to prevent further health issues and expressed respect for his successor.

Economist José Angello Tangherlini Casal, who previously served as the Vice Minister of Development of Family Agriculture and Agrarian Infrastructure and Irrigation, was sworn in as the new Minister of Transport and Communications. Tangherlini intends to ensure the continuity of ongoing policies and projects within the ministry.
