Rafael Rey resigns as Peru's Transport Minister due to health

Rafael Rey has resigned from his position as the head of Peru's Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), citing health concerns. Rey stated that the physical intensity and tension required by the role were causing him harm, leading him to inform President Keiko Fujimori and Prime Minister Luis Galarreta of his decision to step down three weeks ago.

Rey denied rumors of political friction or reprimands from the presidency following alleged disagreements with Rafael López Aliaga regarding the Lima-Chosica train case. He clarified that he had no disputes with President Fujimori or the Prime Minister, asserting that his departure was a proactive measure to prevent further health issues. He also noted that he has met with his successor, José Tangherlini, and respects the new minister's authority to direct the ministry.
