Rafina port capacity crisis prompts sailors' three‑hour work stoppage
The summer increase in ferry schedules has pushed Rafina’s harbour beyond its design capacity, leaving seven vessels competing for only four overnight berths. With two fast ferries and five conventional ships needing accommodation, two conventional ferries are forced to remain at anchor overnight, extending crew duty hours.
In response, the Panhellenic Union of Commercial Sailors (PENEN) announced a three‑hour work stoppage on Friday, 26 June, from 19:00 to 22:00, demanding immediate measures to resolve the berth shortage and improve safety conditions for crews.
