Ragging assaults injure students in Karnataka and Telangana colleges

In Mangaluru, Karnataka, a first‑year student suffered a serious neck fracture after senior students allegedly assaulted him during a ragging incident near Juhharakere. Police detained six seniors, filed an FIR invoking anti‑ragging provisions and launched a detailed investigation.

In Hyderabad, Telangana, a 17‑year‑old first‑year student was punched in the face by three seniors over a dispute about a freshers’ party, resulting in a nasal bone fracture. Police registered a case against the three seniors and the college management under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Telangana Prohibition of Ragging Act. Karnataka has recorded 181 ragging complaints between 2022 and July 2026, the highest among South Indian states.
