Italian schools face arson, weather damage, and infrastructure protests

Various educational institutions in Italy are facing significant challenges ranging from criminal acts and weather damage to infrastructure issues and administrative disputes.

In Gello, near Pisa, an arson attack has rendered a nursery school unusable. Investigators have ruled out electrical faults, focusing on a deliberate act that destroyed teaching materials and official documents. The municipality of San Giuliano Terme is currently seeking temporary locations to ensure students can continue their education.

In Marsala, the Alcide De Gasperi school was severely damaged by a tornado. The principal described the school as “completely destroyed,” though students and teachers were successfully evacuated. Meanwhile, in Ascoli, students at the Industriali institute held a strike to protest unsafe conditions caused by prolonged seismic construction work, citing dust, mold, and flooding.

Other regional developments include discussions in Pisa regarding the funding and allocation of assistance hours for students with disabilities, and debates in Ragusa concerning the composition of classes with high numbers of foreign students and the implementation of new citizenship-based educational regulations.
