Ragweed pollination increases allergy risks in Moldova

Ragweed is currently in its pollination period, which occurs during August and September, increasing the risk of respiratory allergies. The National Agency for Public Health warns that pollen can cause symptoms such as sneezing, nasal congestion, itchy eyes, and tearing. In severe cases, it can lead to coughing, breathing difficulties, or the aggravation of bronchial asthma.

To mitigate risks, specialists recommend that sensitive individuals avoid prolonged exposure to areas where ragweed grows, particularly on dry and windy days, and follow prescribed medical treatments.

Concurrently, the Environmental Protection Inspectorate has been conducting inspections to combat the plant's spread. This week, fines totaling 5,400 lei were issued for failure to comply with ragweed control measures. These penalties were distributed in Bălți, involving three individuals and one legal entity, as well as in the village of Racovăț, Soroca district.
