Rahul Gandhi Remains Sole Face of Punjab Congress Amid Internal Leadership Dispute

Punjab Congress in‑charge Bhupesh Baghal rejected rebel leaders’ call to name former chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi as the party’s chief ministerial candidate for the upcoming state assembly election, reiterating that Rahul Gandhi is the only face of the party in Punjab.

Baghal’s statement came as intra‑party tensions rose, with earlier demands to replace state president Amarinder Singh Raja Wadho also dismissed. He said dissatisfied leaders would now take their grievances to the party’s high command after Rahul Gandhi returns from his foreign tour, expected around 17 July, and may seek a meeting to discuss organizational issues.
