Rai honors Pippo Baudo with special programming on first anniversary of death

Rai is organizing a comprehensive commemorative program across its television, radio, and digital platforms to mark the first anniversary of the death of legendary broadcaster Pippo Baudo. The tribute, scheduled for August 16, aims to celebrate his half-century career and his role in shaping Italian television.

Key programming includes the Rai 1 special “Stasera… Pippo Baudo” at 21:30, featuring archival footage of his most iconic moments. This will be followed by the TG1 special “Mister Tv Pippo Baudo Story” by Leonardo Metalli, which explores his Sicilian roots and his talent for discovering new artists. Other scheduled tributes include a special episode of “Blob” on Rai 3 titled “Superpippo,” and dedicated programming on Rai Storia and Rai Cultura, featuring historical clips from shows like “Canzonissima” and “Ieri e oggi.”

Rai CEO Giampaolo Rossi described Baudo as a “symbol of the public service” who profoundly influenced the country’s collective imagination. Beyond the professional tributes, Baudo’s daughter, Tiziana, has shared personal reflections on his life and his deep connection to Sicily.
