Rai reshapes summer lineup, renews long‑running dramas and drops 'Capri

The state broadcaster Rai confirmed multi‑year extensions for several of its flagship series. The legal thriller Libera, starring Lunetta Savino, will return for new episodes, while the long‑running crime drama Don Matteo has been slated to continue through 2028 with Raoul Bova at the helm. The family drama Che Dio Ci Aiuti will air a new season in 2027, with Francesca Chillemi reprising Sister Azzurra and the possible return of Elena Sofia Ricci.

At the same time, Rai cancelled the planned summer revival of the drama Capri, which was set to mark its 20th anniversary on the Rai 1 schedule. The slot will instead feature repeats of Le Stagioni dell’Amore, La Porta Magica and La Vita in Diretta. The decision provoked criticism from viewers and cast members; actor Kaspar Capparoni posted on social media, “Così tratta i propri telespettatori Mamma Rai,” and presenter Rita Dalla Chiesa lamented the network’s choice, questioning why Rai seemingly forgets its paying audience during the summer.
