Raif Dizdarević funeral diplomat Yugoslavia Bosnia and Herzegovina

Sarajevo held a funeral service at the Lav cemetery for Raif Dizdarević, a prominent diplomat and politician who served in high-ranking positions in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the former Yugoslavia. Dizdarević passed away in Sarajevo at the age of 100.

His extensive career included serving as the President of the Presidency of the Socialist Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina from 1978 to 1982, President of the Assembly of the SFR Yugoslavia, Federal Secretary for Foreign Affairs, and President of the Presidency of the SFR Yugoslavia from May 1988 to May 1989.

A former partisan who joined the National Liberation Movement at age 17, Dizdarević also served in Yugoslav embassies in Bulgaria, the Soviet Union, and Czechoslovakia. During the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina from 1992 to 1995, he remained in the country to support its defense. He is also recognized for his historical writings, including ‘Od smrti Tita do smrti Jugoslavije’.
