Death and funeral of Raif Dizdarević

Overview

Raif Dizdarević, a prominent diplomat and former President of the Presidency of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, has died in Sarajevo at the age of 100.

Dizdarević’s career spanned several high-level roles, including President of the Presidency of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina (1978–1982), President of the Assembly of Yugoslavia (1982–1984), and Federal Secretary for Foreign Affairs (1984–1987). He served as the President of the Presidency of Yugoslavia from May 1988 to May 1989, a period marked by economic crisis and rising nationalism. A former partisan, he also served in Yugoslav embassies in Bulgaria, the Soviet Union, and Czechoslovakia.

Following his death, a funeral service was held for him at the Lav cemetery in Sarajevo.
