Raiffeisen Bank International awarded 3.15 billion euros in court ruling

The Vienna Regional Court for Civil Matters has awarded Raiffeisen Bank International (RBI) and its Russian subsidiary, AO Raiffeisen, approximately 3.15 billion euros in damages from Rasperia Trading. The award, which includes seized funds in Russia, lost interest, and legal costs, follows a previous 2025 Russian court ruling that ordered RBI's subsidiary to pay 2.4 billion euros to Rasperia.

RBI intends to use this judgment to access Rasperia's assets currently frozen in Austria due to EU sanctions. These assets include 28.5 million shares of the construction firm Strabag, dividends accumulated since the 2021 fiscal year, and a cash distribution from March 2024. If the ruling becomes final, RBI will petition the Financial Market Authority (FMA) to release the assets for enforcement.

Rasperia Trading has four weeks to appeal the default judgment. Separately, RBI has announced a strategic partnership with Bitpanda Enterprise to expand cryptocurrency services to its 18 million customers across Central and Eastern Europe through a white-label arrangement.
