Railway expansion projects underway in Morocco and Senegal

Morocco's National Railway Office (ONCF) announced temporary closures of the Omar El Khayam and Sidi Maârouf stations on the Busway BW1 line from 1 August to 15 August 2026 to accommodate work on the Regional Express Network (RER) and a high‑speed line (LGV). Passengers are advised to use alternate routes via the Al Qods station and the T3 line during this period.

In Senegal, the government signed a memorandum of understanding with the French Development Agency (AFD) and the European Union to fund pre‑project studies for extending the Train Express Regional (TER) to Thiès. The agreement, signed on 24 July, allocates €10 million for technical, economic, social and environmental analyses that will precede the extension, aimed at enhancing mobility between Dakar and interior regions.
