Senegal TER extension financing

In late July 2026 Senegal advanced the development of its Train Express Regional (TER) by signing a memorandum of understanding with the French Development Agency (AFD) and the European Union. The agreement, signed on 24 July, earmarks €10 million for pre‑project studies—including technical, economic, social and environmental analyses—to support the extension of the TER from Dakar to Thiès. This financing builds on earlier steps, such as a March 2026 allocation of 6.5 billion FCFA for preparatory studies and a December 2025 presidential directive to create a National Railway Council.

A follow‑up report on 30 July reiterated the €10 million allocation and highlighted the goal of improving mobility between Dakar and interior regions through the planned extension. While the Senegal project is the focus, the same brief also noted unrelated temporary station closures in Morocco’s rail network as part of broader regional railway works.
