Railway infrastructure developments in Germany and Switzerland

Deutsche Bahn has presented initial plans for the electrification of the Bäderbahn in Ostholstein, Germany. While the project is generally supported, local opposition has emerged regarding the proposed station layout in Haffkrug. The current plan involves creating two separate stations, Haffkrug Ost and Haffkrug West, to decouple the electrification process from the hinterland connection project. The municipalities of Scharbeutz and Timmendorfer Strand have expressed disapproval, calling for a unified station concept and a comprehensive plan rather than separate facilities.

In Switzerland, SBB has begun infrastructure upgrades at the Siebnen-Wangen station. The project, funded by a 70 million Swiss franc federal investment, includes the construction of a new passing track and making the station barrier-free by December 2028. These improvements are intended to restore direct S2 connections to Zurich HB and Zurich Airport for travelers from the Obermarch region, providing half-hourly services. Construction will take place during ongoing operations, though some schedule adjustments and replacement buses may be required.
