Brazil Prosecutor General opposes Bolsonaro's appeal to restore visits FAST-MOVING
Brazil's Prosecutor General, Paulo Gonet, has formally requested that the Supreme Federal Court (STF) maintain restrictions on former President Jair Bolsonaro during his house arrest. The request opposes appeals filed by Bolsonaro's defense to lift several judicial measures imposed by Minister Alexandre de Moraes.
One primary restriction involves a ban on visits from Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, which was implemented after the senator shared a handwritten letter from his father on social media. Gonet argued that this act violated the conditions of Bolsonaro's house arrest, which prohibits him from using social media directly or through third parties. The defense has contested this, asserting that Flávio is one of Bolsonaro's lawyers and has a right to meet his client.
Additionally, the PGR supports the prohibition of political-electoral visits and the dissemination of political manifestos until the end of the 2026 elections. Gonet stated that because Bolsonaro was convicted in a coup attempt case, his political rights are suspended, and his house arrest—granted for humanitarian reasons—does not exempt him from the strict rules of the closed-regime execution of his 27-year sentence.
