Rain and cooler temperatures expected in Istanbul this weekend

Meteorologists warn that a rain‑bearing system moving north from the Balkans will affect Istanbul and much of Turkey over the weekend. In Istanbul, temperatures are forecast to fall by about 5‑6 °C, with a thunderstorm bringing 3‑7 kg m⁻² of rain on Saturday and intermittent showers on Sunday. The wider forecast calls for the system to spread from the Marmara region into Central Anatolia, the Black Sea coast, Eastern Anatolia and the interior of the Mediterranean area, with temperature drops of 5‑10 °C in the Marmara region while the Aegean and southeastern provinces remain above 30 °C. Authorities have advised residents to take precautions against strong winds and heavy rain, especially in coastal towns and during outdoor events such as the Selimiye Mosque opening in Edirne.
