Rain‑induced power outages disrupt households in Dominican Republic and Venezuela

Heavy rains on Saturday caused widespread electricity interruptions in the Dajabón province of the Dominican Republic. Municipalities such as Loma de Cabrera, Restauración, Santiago de la Cruz and Capotillo reported outages affecting hundreds of residents. Local authorities and the power distributor have not yet released an official damage assessment, but technical crews are expected to be dispatched to restore service.

Similar disruptions were reported in Cumaná, Venezuela, on Thursday after morning showers. Neighbourhoods including Los Chaimas, Villa Cristóbal Colón, La Llanada and El Peñón experienced several hours without power. Residents contacted the national electricity company, Corpoelec, which sent workers to the sites, though complaints persist about frequent outages during the rainy season and calls for preventive maintenance.

Both communities are urging utilities to improve infrastructure resilience as the region continues to face persistent precipitation.
