Vietnam braces for heavy showers and thunderstorms on July 8, 2026

The national weather service forecast scattered thunderstorms across Vietnam on 8 July 2026. In the north, rain will be intermittent but localized downpours could exceed 70 mm, with some areas receiving over 100 mm. Authorities warned of strong gusts, lightning, hail and the risk of flash floods and landslides on steep slopes.

Central highlands and the southern region will also see scattered rain and thunderstorms, with isolated heavy rain events. Coastal waters from central Vietnam to the southern East Sea are expected to experience southwest winds strengthening to force 6‑7, causing rough seas and wave heights up to 3 m. Marine warnings were issued for the Gulf of Tonkin, the Mekong Delta coast and the Spratly (Trường Sa) area.

The meteorological agency advised residents to avoid travel during peak periods, secure loose objects, and stay alert for sudden weather changes that could affect agriculture, infrastructure and transport.
