Rainwater capture projects boost families in Mexico’s Juárez and Argentina’s Pozo Mositoj

In the colonia Olimpia of Juárez, Mexico, the Junta de Agua y Saneamiento de Juárez (JMAS) completed a rain‑water capture and drainage work at the intersection of Apolo and Atlante streets. The project, costing 4.65 million pesos and now 93 % finished, has eliminated standing water that previously rose up to 70 cm, restoring mobility and protecting homes for more than a thousand residents.

In Pozo Mositoj, Argentina, the Argentine Red Cross together with Scout groups from Salta, Córdoba and Buenos Aires built cistern No. 11 to collect rainwater and upgraded the local health unit (UPA). The volunteers also provided safety talks and recreational activities for the Tonokoté community, aiming to alleviate chronic water scarcity and improve living conditions.

Both initiatives illustrate community‑focused infrastructure efforts to secure reliable water supplies and reduce flood risk in underserved neighborhoods.
