Rajapaksa family members face ongoing legal proceedings in Sri Lanka
Members of the Rajapaksa family are facing ongoing legal proceedings in Sri Lanka regarding high-profile financial allegations.
Namal Rajapaksa has been remanded until October 13 following a court's refusal of bail in a bribery case linked to the procurement of Airbus aircraft for SriLankan Airlines. Prosecutors have indicated that investigations into the bribery and related money laundering allegations are complete, with steps being taken toward a joint indictment. He is also involved in a separate money laundering investigation currently overseen by the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court.
Separately, the Colombo High Court has scheduled a pre-trial conference for November 3 for Yoshitha Rajapaksa, son of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa. This proceeding concerns money laundering charges that have been moving through the judicial system for an extended period. The conference will allow the prosecution and defense to outline the scope of the case before formal trial proceedings begin.
