Rajasthan ACB arrests middlemen and CGST officer in bribery case

The Rajasthan Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested two middlemen, Anil Pareek and Sushil Pareek, in Rajsamand while they were allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 25 lakh. The funds were reportedly being collected on behalf of Sanwal Ram, a Superintendent of Tax Evasion at the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) Commissionerate in Udaipur.

The investigation began after a complainant, who operates two registered firms, alleged that Ram had demanded a total bribe of Rs 60 lakh through Anil Pareek. The requested payment was intended to resolve various legal and administrative issues, including halting recovery proceedings, settling show-cause notices and summons, and reactivating a firm's account.

Following verification of the demand, the ACB conducted a trap operation. While the two middlemen were arrested during the exchange, Sanwal Ram was also detained in connection with the case. Authorities have since conducted searches at Ram's residence in Udaipur.
