Rajasthan High Court advocates strike against Acting Chief Justice
Advocates at the Rajasthan High Court's Jodhpur and Jaipur benches have launched strikes and sit-ins against Acting Chief Justice Sanjeev Prakash Sharma. Protesters have staged demonstrations outside his courtroom, raising slogans against his leadership.
The unrest follows allegations made by Supreme Court Justice Sandeep Mehta, who sent letters to Chief Justice of India Surya Kant accusing Justice Sharma of “gross maladministration”, misuse of administrative powers, and favoritism. Justice Mehta specifically raised concerns regarding the manipulation of case listings and has requested the appointment of a regular Chief Justice from another state to lead the Rajasthan High Court.
Chief Justice Surya Kant stated that the Collegium is currently examining the allegations and that Justice Sharma will be given an opportunity to respond. Meanwhile, bar associations in Jodhpur are meeting to discuss further actions, including the possibility of an indefinite strike.
