Indian states offer free bus travel for women during Raksha Bandhan

Several Indian state governments have implemented free bus travel initiatives for women to celebrate the Raksha Bandhan festival.

In Uttar Pradesh, the state road transport corporation reported that over 9.26 lakh passengers, including 6.03 lakh women and their companions, utilized free services on the first day. The total value of these free trips was estimated at over 9.06 crore rupees.

In Uttarakhand, the government announced a 100 per cent fare waiver for women traveling within the state on August 28 and 29, 2026, with the state undertaking the reimbursement for the transport corporation.

Similarly, the governments of Bihar and Rajasthan provided free travel on state roadways buses. In Bihar, the facility covered both AC and non-AC services, while in Rajasthan, large numbers of passengers were observed at major hubs like the Sindhi Camp bus stand in Jaipur.
