Raúl Martins extradited from Mexico to Argentina

Raúl Martins, a 78-year-old former SIDE intelligence agent, has been extradited from Mexico to Argentina. He arrived at Ezeiza airport following a secret operation to face charges involving the leadership of an illicit association dedicated to the economic exploitation of prostitution.

Martins had been living in Mexico for nearly seven years, where he held citizenship and resided under house arrest in a luxury property in Playa del Carmen. His legal defense is currently seeking to prevent him from serving time in prison, arguing that he has already served a period equivalent to the maximum sentence for one of the charges. His lawyers are also requesting house arrest in Argentina, citing his advanced age and degenerative health conditions, including advanced renal failure.

The case, overseen by the Federal Criminal Oral Court No. 7, follows an international arrest warrant issued by Judge María Servini in 2019. While the trial date has not yet been set, his return to Argentina allows the judicial process to move toward an oral trial.
