Extradition of Raúl Martins to Argentina

Raúl Luis Martins Coggiola, a 77-year-old former agent of Argentina's State Intelligence Secretariat (SIDE), has been extradited from Mexico to Argentina to face criminal charges.

Martins was accused of leading a criminal organization dedicated to human trafficking for sexual exploitation and money laundering between 2010 and 2019. He had been living in Mexico for nearly seven years, where he held citizenship and resided under house arrest in Playa del Carmen following his 2019 detention in Cancún.

After a lengthy legal battle involving numerous defense filings, Martins arrived at Ezeiza International Airport under heavy security. His legal team is currently seeking house arrest in Argentina, citing his advanced age and degenerative health conditions, including advanced renal failure. The case, overseen by the Federal Criminal Oral Court No. 7, will proceed toward an oral trial regarding charges of criminal association, human trafficking, and money laundering.
