Raúl Flores sets new 511-kg deadlift world record

Mexican strongman Raúl Abraham Flores Castro, known as ‘Tayzon’, set a new world deadlift record by lifting 511 kilograms (approximately 1,126.6 pounds) at the 2026 World Deadlift Championships. The event took place on September 5 at the Utilita Arena in Birmingham, United Kingdom, as part of the Giants Live circuit.

Flores surpassed the previous record of 510 kilograms held by Icelandic athlete Hafþór Björnsson, who set the mark in 2025 at the same venue. The 26-year-old athlete, originally from Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas, became the first Mexican and Latin American to hold an official strongman deadlift world record.

Flores’ achievement follows a period of rapid progression; in 2025, he recorded an official lift of 453.5 kilograms. During his preparation for this championship, he had achieved an unofficial training lift of 504.04 kilograms. The successful 511-kilogram attempt was validated by judges using standard equipment, including a lifting suit, belt, and straps.
