Mille Miglia Rally spectator killed in fatal Bione accident

A spectator has died following a fatal accident during the 49th edition of the Mille Miglia Rally in Bione, Valsabbia. The victim, identified as 63-year-old Francesco De Pasquale from Caselle Torinese, was reportedly taking photographs near a curve when a Skoda Fabia, driven by Alessandro Zorzi, veered off the track and struck him.

Following the incident, organizers immediately suspended and eventually cancelled the remainder of the rally, which was scheduled to conclude in Brescia. The driver and navigator sustained non-serious injuries.

Authorities have opened an investigation into the circumstances of the crash. The driver is currently under investigation for manslaughter. Investigators are working to determine the exact location of the victim at the time of impact, whether the area was accessible to spectators, and the specific trajectory of the vehicle to understand why it left the course.
