Ralph Siegel awakens from artificial coma after severe pneumonia

German Eurovision composer Ralph Siegel, 80, was placed in an artificial coma at a Munich hospital after contracting a severe lung infection. The family gathered at his bedside as his condition was closely monitored.

On 6 July his daughter Giulia Siegel announced on Instagram that the coma had been ended, that her father was awake and able to engage in light conversation. She thanked supporters and noted that his half‑brother from Berlin had visited, bringing him joy. His wife Laura Siegel later confirmed the update to the German Press Agency.

Siegel, known for hits such as “Ein bisschen Frieden,” has previously dealt with serious illnesses, including cancer. The family expressed gratitude and optimism for his continued recovery.
