Ralph Siegel emerges from coma with new Eurovision song, calls it 'unsurpassable
German schlager composer Ralph Siegel, 80, was placed in an artificial coma in early July after a severe lung infection. He awoke in mid‑July and is now in rehabilitation, taking his first steps with a rollator and receiving daily home‑cooked meals from his family.
Siegel said the experience was “like an endless nightmare” but also revealed that during the coma he composed a new song for the Eurovision Song Contest. He told the Münchner Merkur the melody is “fantastic” and “unsurpassable,” and he intends to submit it to the next ESC, hoping it will evoke the same feeling as his 1982 winning entry “Ein bisschen Frieden.”
