South Asia floods leave 80 missing and cause widespread devastation

Severe flooding across South Asia has caused significant casualties and missing persons. In the Nepal-Tibet border region, the Isha Foundation reported that 77 participants of the Kailash Manasarovar Sojourn and three volunteers remain unaccounted for following deadly flash floods. Identification efforts are ongoing, though access to the Gyirong Port site remains restricted by Chinese authorities for forensic and rescue purposes.

In India, the Ganga river has caused widespread devastation in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. In Bihar, five people, including four children, have drowned, and major transport links like National Highway-80 have been submerged. While water levels in some monitoring stations are beginning to recede, many urban zones and panchayats remain heavily inundated.

In Uttar Pradesh, the Ramganga River has triggered panic in Moradabad district. Rising waters have caused massive agricultural losses, destroying crops and orchards, and leading to significant land erosion. Local residents report substantial financial damage as they struggle to protect their property from the rising river levels.
